Applications of GIS in Maritime Archaeology
The field of Maritime Archaeology is a broad and multi-faceted discipline that incorporates many other areas of study through research and analysis. In depth historical and archaeological investigations allow maritime researchers to paint a vivid picture of life the maritime world through the use of historic narratives and archaeological remains. The use of GIS, and other spatial tools, allows researchers to take this data even further and understand maritime heritage in new ways. This paper will discuss the role GIS plays in maritime archaeological research, and its applications in studying Wisconsin's maritime history. While not currently used as extensively as it could be, GIS offers a substantial opportunity for analyzing maritime historical and archaeological data in alternative ways. By applying spatial analysis to maritime archaeological data, new insights can be made into the broader aspects historic maritime cultural and industrial landscapes. From gaining an understanding of historic maritime trade routes and vessel type used in different regions, to investigating shifting coastlines and waterfronts, to examining the diversity of maritime workers over time, spatial analysis and applications in GIS can provide a better understanding of how people have used, and changed, waterways over time.

New Datums Coming in 2022 Could Significantly Change Your World
The National Geodetic Survey (NGS) is currently working to develop new datums that will replace the current horizontal datum (NAD83) and the current vertical datum (NAVD88). These new datums will have improved accuracy and precision and will be noticeably different from current datums. When released by NGS in 2022, they will become the National standard for the United States. This will affect you, and you will need to deal with the changes. Learn about the magnitude of the changes and some options for you to deal with them.

The NATRF2022 Task Force: Goals and Plans
In 2022 the National Geodetic Survey (NGS) plans to introduce a new terrestrial reference system to replace NAD83. The new reference system – North American Terrestrial Reference Frame of 2022, or NATRF2022 – is earth-centered and epoch-based, and will rely on Global Navigation Satellite Systems and an updated geoid model. The rollout of NATRF2022 will have significant effects on surveying, mapping and GIS across Wisconsin.

The surveying and geospatial communities in Wisconsin have created a Task Force to help prepare for these effects. The Task Force is organized under the Geospatial Committee of the Wisconsin Society of Land Surveyors. Howard Veregin, Wisconsin State Cartographer, chairs the Task Force, and Richard Kleinmann, who leads the WSLS Geospatial Committee, will be co-Chair.

This talk will summarize the goals and plans of the Task Force to address the technical, educational, communication, legislative and software aspects required to respond to the change.

Safe at Home, Wisconsin's Address Confidentiality Program
Safe at Home is a statewide address confidentiality program that provides victims of actual or threatened domestic abuse, child abuse, sexual abuse, stalking, and trafficking, or those who simply fear for their physical safety with a legal substitute address to be used for both public and private purposes. Enrollment in Safe at Home allows participants to use and receive mail at an assigned address in lieu of their actual address. Safe at Home then forwards mail from the assigned address to participants’ actual addresses free of charge.
 
The intent of Safe at Home is for those who fear for their safety to be able to maintain a private, confidential home, work, or school address and gain some peace of mind. Safe at Home is one of many tools that an individual can choose as part of their overall safety plan.

This session will provide an overview of the Safe at Home program and how participation may impact the disclosure of land information.

School District Boundaries Update
The Department of Public Instruction (DPI) manages the school district boundary change process and is responsible for issuing boundary change orders to county and municipal clerks. They are also tasked with informing the US Census of any boundary changes. In 2017, DPI collected school district boundary data from counties which became the basis of the first-ever accurate statewide layer. This presentation will highlight recent efforts of the department and county officials to improve the accuracy of school district boundaries in Wisconsin.

Beyond the 98...the role GIS data plays in NG9-1-1
NG9-1-1 is a upheaval to the current E9-1-1 systems which will have a pointed impact on any local GIS data provider and addressing authority. This because locally maintained and authoritative GIS location data will replace the current tabular datasets which are used to identify what 911 center the caller should be connected to. This is a life-critical role for GIS data with a near real-time update maintenance requirement.

When asked the question, "What do I need to do to prepare my data for NG9-1-1" many GIS data providers get fuzzy answers at best. This presentation will education on what role GIS data plays in the ESInet, what the requirements are, dispel the myth that you only need to achieve 98% synchronization of your GIS data and begin to break the process down into manageable steps

Planning for the Next Generation 9-1-1 in Wisconsin
Implementing a Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG911) requires an immense amount of planning. Much of it is years in the making. Accurate statewide GIS datasets that are locally sourced will be an essential part in helping make NG911 work properly. The system will help connect callers to any Public Safety Answering Point and have the ability to dispatch resources anywhere in the state. This presentation will talk about the components that go into planning for and building statewide data sets in support of the Next Generation 9-1-1.
